Thief 1 / Gold Fan Mission
Great Tree

 Filesize: 3.9 MB
 Released: 8/1/2001
 readme.txt

By: Komag (Ben Ramsey)

Plot Description: A woman named Victoria has offered me a job to steal a sword from a nobleman named Constantine, but in my preparations for the hiest I heard word of a giant tree with valuable magical healing fruit which grows in Constantine's orchard. I've decided to put off the sword job for another night, and steal into the high wall orchard to grab some of the fruits for myself, as they will probably bring in a pretty penny on the street. Basso has supplied me with a basic map he drew from information he bribed from an old guard who somehow used to "work" there - in a tree? Anyway, since I've heard the tree is rather huge, I'm glad the Keepers made me master the art of the rope arrow, which should come in quite handy on this little heist.

  • Pros: An original mission to be enjoyed by the vertically inclined.
  • Cons: Easy to get stuck in some places. Falling is routine. Plan on lots of reloads.
  • Bottom Line: Fun for those who like climbing around in trees.

Plot Description: Some new guy is moving in next door and he has some big smelly rat he calls Squeeky. The darn thing keeps getting out and digging up bones from the local graveyard. This has got to stop! Find out how how that nasty creature is getting out of its pen, but don't hurt it. I hear the guy has some real tight attachment to this rat, and we don't want to stir up any more trouble than is needed. Oh yeah, while your there, you might as well make it worth your while.......

  • Pros: A wonderfully buggy rodent.
  • Cons: Everthing else about this mission is poor.
  • Bottom Line: Go ahead and try this one if you're bored and running out of missions to play... the rat's worth a look.

     Released: 7/3/2001
     readme.txt

    By: RicknMel

Plot Description: "It's rumored that GumDrop was busted in an attempt to get into Binfords tool vault last night, and is being held captive in a back bedroom in Binfords Manor. I know you could care less about GumDrop as a fellow Thief, but it might be worth your while to help him escape. They say that he has a key that could be worth more than you could ever imagine. Binfords guards say they couldn't find it, but I know he has it. Why don't you pay him a visit. Theres no way you'll get through the front door, but I think you can get to him if you cross the bridge that leads to Binfords back gates."

Additional Comments: This mission is my second effort at a Super Mini Fan Mission. It's quite better than my first, but I'm still learning. Have fun! :-)

    Hammer Score: 2.0 of 10
    Comments by Reviewer:
  • Pros: Good ghosting practice, on Expert.
  • Cons: Very repetitive, narrow gameplay; a mission layout that seems absurd.
  • Bottom Line: This is like a Thief training simulation. Play it on Expert, without using the blackjack, if you want a nice, quick challenge.

  • Cons: The stealth may not appeal to you; no map.

Plot Description: "You hear rumors of the Mechanists and the City Watch being seen together throughout the city lately. Then someone tells you they are planning to ally forces and become one stronghold and start finishing what Karras and Truart couldnt. They just started so take things slow. Just find proof of this alliance and then we'll take it from there. If there is an alliance happening, it looks like you'll be a bit busy for busy for a while."

Plot Description: Garrett discovers a golden opportunity to make some money quickly. A wealthy eccentric (some say wizard) has decided to put a rare jewelry collection on display, and for sale to the highest bidder.

"I've always been reluctant to work with a partner, but this time the job was too big to handle alone. If I had a reliable fence to work with I might not have gotten into this mess. But I've never found another fence I could trust like Cutty... more

Additional Comments: This mission takes place after Thief: The Dark Project but before Thief II. Garrett hasn't pawned off Constantine's sword yet, and the Law and Order crackdown in the city has yet to start. Also, the Mechanists are just splitting away from the Hammerites.

     Released: 6/14/2001

    By: DonkeyKong

Plot Description: The possibility of time travel and space warping has always been intriguing to you. For half of your life, you've slaved away with one invention after another in the hopes of creating a machine that travels through time and space. All of your hard work may have payed off and now its time to reap your rewards. Your dreams of finding the lost pyramid of Chakafa could be within your very grasp. At last, Fortune & Glory...

Appeal: Fortune & Glory is an 'Indiana Jones' type mission which forces you to think rather than just slash at hopeless guards. This mission is geared towards people who like to face perilous adventure rather than a sword fighting bloodbath.

    Hammer Score: 4.0 of 10
    Comments by Reviewer:
  • Pros: Novel and interesting settings.
  • Cons: Exploring, and solving puzzles, are difficult enough that you'll probably need spoilers to complete the level. The gameplay is completely non-stealthy.
  • Bottom Line: Nice locales, inadequate gameplay. The starting house may be worth checking out, for a few strange sights.

    By: Schwaa (J. Knez)

Plot Description: Garrets original mission was to break into the New Order of the Mechanists Prison and steal Sherriff Truart's Silver Cog. This is a medal awarded to him by Brother Karras for his devoted work for the Master Builder. It sounded risky ( and turned out to be) but it paid well so Garret went for it. Bad mistake. Now it is time to escape, luckily with a little help from the inside.

    Hammer Score: 4.5 of 10
    Comments by Reviewer:
  • Pros: Good gameplay design, on the whole.
  • Cons: May seem repetitive, since many of the areas of this particular jail look alike and require similar strategies.
  • Bottom Line: Certainly a good download, if you enjoy missions of this type. It's not the best in the prison-escape genre, though.

Plot Description: It seems that certain Lord Geller has an intriguing amount of gold in his possesion, just ripe for taking. He's not natively from The City, but my contacts lack the information about his original homeland. For a foreigner, he's in a surprisingly wealthy position, and he's a careful one, too. He has stored most of his wealth into the First City Bank And Trust. So, instead of the usual burglary, I'm thinking of blackmailing. My contacts tell me that Geller isn't really as pure as the driving snow, but they don't know the details. My plan is quite simple: break into his mansion, search for anything useful for blackmailing and take some of his wealth in the process...(more)

Plot Description: I've been hired by an eccentric but wealthy man called Ranfield to retrieve something for him. The object in question is a holy relic, the skull of St. Lambert. The man claims to be a distant relative of St. Lambert and would like to place the skull in his family tomb. Personally I don't care if this is true or not, just as long as he pays well.

According to Ranfield, the skull is kept in the reliquary of a hammerite monastery called Redmound. The monastery is situated to the west, in the outskirts of the City. Getting inside might prove to be difficult since the gates are guarded day and night. However, a few years back the Hammers bought a warehouse close to the monastery. The best way inside is probably through this warehouse, as there should be a passage connecting these two buildings.

Plot Description: Garrett is holed up in an old Keeper safe house. His activities in his local part of the city has drawn him too much unwanted attention. He is now low on funds and equipment and must venture out to resupply. There have been a number of recent murders that have caused the city watch to increase their patrols around this sector of town. They should not be a problem for one such as himself.

  • Pros: Excellent streets and layout with plenty to do and see, fluid gameplay, good atmosphere.
  • Cons: Underdeveloped interiors, scrounging for loot, undead impervious to weapons.

Plot Description: What that woman paid in bribes to find me had to be no small amount. She began to speak as she deposited two large and shining gems on the table. "I will give you half dozen more if you discover what has happened to my bridegroom" -she situated herself in a chair and continued- "His name is Saturio Machado. He returned barely one week ago after having fought for months in a war in the Hilldrim territories. We spent the night of his return together in my house. The following day he rose early, eager to go to his family's mansion because his mother was ill, and had been for a long time. That was the last time that I saw him. Concerned, I went to the authorities since I did not wish to face Lady Machado... she never accepted my relationship with Saturio. Much to my surprise, the cops told me that Sigfrido, the nephew of Lady Machado had informed them that according to the news received from the front, Saturio had died in combat weeks back. The authorities did not have reason to doubt his word and thus they let me know. Something has happened behind those walls Mr. Garrett. You have to help me."
