Thief 2 Fan Mission
Cathedral of the Damned (v0.6)

 Filesize: 12.2 MB
 Released: 1/13/2002
 readme.rtf (1.2 Meg)

By: Dark Angel

Plot Description: About a month has passed since the Trickster's demise. The Hammerites, seemingly very pleased with your recent work, decide they have another task for you. A Hammerite priest has told you about a holy scepter which has been left in an abandoned cathedral some decades ago. He wishes for you to retrieve it for him. But finding the scepter is only half the job, once found it must be blessed in a special holy pool, which is said to be located inside somewhere.

A simple job for a master thief such as yourself, not to meantion a lucrative opertunity. Be warned though, the priest didn't bother to meantion that the place was haunted.

Additional Comments: This version has been released, uncomplete, for beta testing purposes. The main things that haven't been implimented as of yet are the scripting, EAX, a few books, modeling, and the briefing videos and cutscenes. Other than that, its basicly finished (or whatever the testers find wrong with it).

    By: Schwaa (Jeffery Knez)

Plot Description: Your friend Roland, the one you served time with, that got you a map to escape jail in the past has given you an ancient map and scroll to help you find Crom's Blade. The map is very crude and in terrible shape so use it only as a reference, the scroll was being translated by the Mechanists priest Father Lucas. Lucas didn't finish translating it before Roland stole it but it should come in handy. You hopped a Mechanist train for a free ride to the excavation site and jumped out before it came to a complete stop. You found an ice cave that looks like it goes in the right direction, now you must get into the castle.

    Hammer Score: 7.5 of 10
    Comments by Reviewer:
  • Pros: Immersive ice/castle setting, fun loot-seeking and exploration, many unique elements.
  • Cons: A potentially frustrating main puzzle, a story with some unexplained aspects, and a mythos that you may find out-of-place in Thief.
  • Bottom Line: A great mission. This could be one of your favorites, especially if you enjoy the look and feel of a wintry setting.

Plot Description: Purah here, that's Pur (like a cat) ah! (like a good idea). I'm at the Saturnine Mansion this evening and let me tell you, the circumstances of my inevitable leaving are indeed bittersweet.I'm afraid I've just run through the place and made quite a mess (boots tracking snowmelt and such)—and its probably best if I'm not here when the lord of the house gets home. Hence I'm going to be quick about this here introduction. The Seventh Crystal has finally arrived. And yes, I'm a happy beta tester.I won't be giving much away if I say its a cold winter's night in the city. And I'll only be telling the truth if I say you haven't played a dark and forbidding mission until you've played the 7th Crystal.

    Review by Peter Smith:

  • Pros: Gorgeous architecture.  Excellent story-telling.  Cinematic production, totally unique. Realistic, sneaky style gameplay.
  • Cons: Very little other than some unrealistic sound propagation and a misleading loot total (see above).
  • Bottom Line: Fun, story-based mission. A joy to look at, watch the cutscenes, and play.

    Thief 2 Fan Mission
    Karrassinian Threat

     Filesize: 11.3 MB
     Released: 11/7/2001
     readme.txt

     No briefing version (5.6 MB)

    By: Paul Buckley

Plot Description: Letter from Layne to Garrett, To my friend Garrett, There is a general feeling of unrest in Karrassina, the unified factions are at breaking point as each tries to obtain their share of control in the city, a civil war is not out of the question. Amidst all the political unrest there are rumours tearing through the underground regarding a new unknown force, a new threat that has been brewing in recent times. It surely not the Mechanists as they are but all gone, those that remain are now part of the unified coalition of Karrassina along with the Hammerites and the City Watchmen. No coalition members claim to know or admit to knowledge of who or what is behind these rumours or if they are true. (more)

Additional Comments: The sleepy city of Karrassina lies beneath the level of the sea and is situated upon land reclaimed from the central oceans by the mechanists before their timely demise. Since the end of mechanist rule, Karrassina has undergone many governmental changes and Karrassina is now governed by 'The Unified Coalition Of Karrassina'. The city has only recently regained its political stability and a degree of law and order is now in place. Karrassina is populated mainly by the very wealthy and the very poor, there is nothing much between. The two are segregated by the city guard who enforce peace in Karrassina as the rich look to steal from the poor to give to themselves.

    Hammer Score: 7.0 of 10
    Comments by Reviewer:
  • Pros: Very creepy, interesting and unusual below-sea-level setting, very fun (though difficult) exploration.
  • Cons: The initial friendliness of most guards may make the level too easy, finding your way about Karrassina can be very confusing.
  • Bottom Line: A very good mission, with many surprises. Worth giving a look, at the very least.

    Lord Lomat's Flute

     Filesize: 0.5 MB
     Released: 11/1/2001
     readme.txt

    By: Murray Lorden

Plot Description: "Lord Lomat Bafford's mansion sits proudly amongst the other houses of the wealthy and noble, sorrounded by its very own moat and gardens.

It is well known that Lomat Bafford has a love of antiques, so you've decided to take a stroll across town tonight to visit his manor, as you've heard he will be out tonight on the town...

He has just left in his carriage, and now's your chance to sneak in! You'll have to get over the moat and sneak inside the mansion.

Once inside, pilfer Lord Lomat's rare Silver Flute! It should fetch quite a sum on the markets."

    Hammer Score: 2.5 of 10
    Comments by Reviewer:
  • Pros: Challenging guards.
  • Cons: The challenge of the guards comes from their preternatural eyesight. There also isn't much of a story, and the architecture sometimes tends toward the overly blocky or uniform.
  • Bottom Line: You might find it fun. But be aware that the guards have eyes in the backs of their heads.

Plot Description: "There are cords in the hearts of the most reckless, which cannot be touched without emotion. Even with the utterly lost, to whom life and death are equally jests, there are matters of which no jest can be made" --Edgar Allen Poe

My score with this "Brotherhood of the Raven" isn't settled yet. No one plays me like that & gets away with it. And then there's the fact that I still have no idea where I am. I've shacked up in a local villiage, but what loot I stole from the arena is running low. I made contact with a local "businessman" who offered me a deal. He'd tell me where to find out more about this "Brotherhood" if I'd fetch an old navigation globe for him. He pointed me to an ancient temple that once belonged to them, but is now rumored to be haunted. Much as I'd rather not dance with the dead again, these are "extenuating circumstances." A local weapon shop can supply me with plenty of items to make it a little less dangerous, but I'd better be careful. Rumor also has it that these ghouls & ghosties aren't like any I've faced before.

    Hammer Score: 6.0 of 10
    Comments by Reviewer:
  • Pros: Creepy, dangerous custom haunts, good gameplay and setting.
  • Cons: Plain visuals, problematic story, potentially frustrating puzzles.
  • Bottom Line: A good, slightly unconventional undead mission... of course, you may or may not enjoy sneaking among the living dead.
