Judging Criteria

The following areas will be judged:

Primary Areas.

  • Gameplay: Did you enjoy the mission? Was it challenging? Frustrating? Fun?
  • Atmosphere: Was there one? Did you find it appropriate to the setting? Was it believable?
  • Immersion: Did the mission pull you in? Were you playing to find out "what happened next" or merely plodding along? Did you feel involved?
  • Creativity: How creative has the author been? Did they expand on the given perameters? Have they made multiple ways of playing to allow replayabilty? Have they added anything to the story that makes it unique? Are there good secrets?
Secondary Areas
  • Architecture: Was the architecture appropriate to the story? Was it correctly scaled? Did everything fit together?
  • Tech: Were objects such as particle bridges correctly implemented. Had the AI been appropriately or merely placed and left
  • Loot placement: Was all the loot in suitable areas? Were any loot targets too hard to achieve? Did you find yourself wandering for hours going "where's that last xx loot"?
  • Bugs: Were there any? These should not include bugs that are inherent to the Dark Engine eg, Sudden Heartattack Syndrome

Negative bonuses
  • Unsuitable Objects: Such as a super-dooper kill everything grenade for the player
  • Bad AI placement: AI has been placed in such a manner as to force you into confrontation or is guarding something worthless.
  • Unfinished Areas: Is the mission surrounded by sky? Does it have a whole section that is nothing but unexplained empty rooms? Does the ending make you go, "uh, so now what?"?
  • Extremely poor architecture: Doors that are too small, large numbers of misaligned brushes, areas where you are constantly getting stuck
  • Constant F11, F12 moments: Jumps that are almost impossible to make, "Super" AI which are impossible to overcome, puzzles whose only solution are guess and hope you don't die.
  • Too rigid/Directionless: Are you left wandering around aimlessly? Do you feel the mission is too linear?

Each of the Primary categories are to be marked on a scale of 1 (worst) to 10 (best). And the secondaries from 1 (worst) to 5 (best). Negative Bonuses incur a -1 to -5 penalty, based upon the judge's evaluation of the error. The questions next to the categories are purely for example. The scores of each judge will be added together and an average taken, given an overall score out of 60. All scores will be published on a Final Results page when judging is complete. Judging time will be dependent on the number of entries received.
