By: Maria Ström (Morrgan)

Plot Description: I've been hired by an eccentric but wealthy man called Ranfield to retrieve something for him. The object in question is a holy relic, the skull of St. Lambert. The man claims to be a distant relative of St. Lambert and would like to place the skull in his family tomb. Personally I don't care if this is true or not, just as long as he pays well.

According to Ranfield, the skull is kept in the reliquary of a hammerite monastery called Redmound. The monastery is situated to the west, in the outskirts of the City. Getting inside might prove to be difficult since the gates are guarded day and night. However, a few years back the Hammers bought a warehouse close to the monastery. The best way inside is probably through this warehouse, as there should be a passage connecting these two buildings.

By: Duncan Cooke (The Deceiver)

Plot Description: Garrett is holed up in an old Keeper safe house. His activities in his local part of the city has drawn him too much unwanted attention. He is now low on funds and equipment and must venture out to resupply. There have been a number of recent murders that have caused the city watch to increase their patrols around this sector of town. They should not be a problem for one such as himself.

Comments by Jeremy Mitchell:

  • Pros: Excellent streets and layout with plenty to do and see, fluid gameplay, good atmosphere.
  • Cons: Underdeveloped interiors, scrounging for loot, undead impervious to weapons.
  • Bottom Line: A worthy effort by Cooke that provides an enjoyable mix of thievery and exploration with a few surprises. More than enough to occupy the avid thief.

     Walkthrough

    By: xarax

Plot Description: After escaping from the Trials of the Master Keeper, I thought that I should visit my friend Ybynwan. I wanted to learn more about Keeper technology, what Ybynwan calls, "Magic". In my line of work, "Magic" is simply misunderstood technology.

I received some interesting information from Ybynwan. The town of Eldevir has a strange stone obelisk called the "Varyx Obelisk". It's quite old and is rumored to have some connection to the keepers, but nobody knows for sure.

The Varyx Obelisk may be the connection I need to learn more about my former teachers, and maybe some profit. My conversation with Ybynwan in the town of Viowen convinced me that there is something worthwhile here in Eldevir. After several days traveling to Eldevir from Viowen, I learned that there is a curfew from dusk to dawn, and the patrol guards are very unforgiving. I must be cautious on the streets.

    Review by Z:

  • Pros: Good story-line, good sound, overall atmosphere good.
  • Cons: Sometimes poor visuals, extremely long.
  • Bottom Line: A very good mission that really delivers in atmosphere and gameplay, but does not have incredible visuals. Good for a few hours of intensity. Good replayability, too.

  • Comments by Second Opinion Reviewer:
The Varyx Obelisk, a Fan Mission by xarax, is an enjoyable mission with lots of puzzles to solve, secret passages, and nice little twists that are different from most Thief missions. In a word, it is a tricky mission. If you like puzzles, you will like this one. If you don't, then you might get a little frustrated in places.

Plot Description: Cutty left behind a bunch of virtual training simulations in his attic which I managed to find. The point of this one is a simply survival. This shouldn't be too hard. On the other hand, I also found a pile of notes related to this virtual sumulator, and from my own assessment, this thing could turn out to be pretty reallistic after all. I might have to watch my step…

    By: Asymuth & Sperry

Plot Description: This enterance should do the trick. According to the information I picked up from Guilesatpeak, I should be able to enter Tuthomath's tomb from here. I wish I still had my blackjack with me, but I've got to move it if I want to find at least a dab of loot left. With any luck, the Hammerite expedition won't bother me too much; luck is something I going to have to count on if I want to succede here--especially if those rumors about this place being haunted is true...I just hope the dead will tolerate us.

Additional Comments: This mission is set after Guilesatpeak
It is recommended that expert difficulty be only played by a good computer (at least pentium 2 with a good 3d card) ;)
Also, the the eax can be add much to the game experience. Set it manually to "stone room"

    By: Jan Jakubovic (krompac)

Plot Description: This is the letter you've received from an unknown man:

    "Garrett,

I don't like to do it, but circumstances made me to press you into service for me. Thanks to my informants, I know a lot about your 'activity' in our town and I have enough information to put you in jail for several years. However if you carry out what I'm going to ask you to do, I will burn all the proofs and forget about the whole matter.

Several years ago, an evildoer named Virate has settled into the mansion behind the town. He used to be a Hammerite priest in the past, but later he got mixed up with the forces of darkness and was excommunicated from the order. Rumour has it that it's him to whom the army of the undead terrorizing the surrounding belongs. In the last weeks more and more undead could be seen and moreover people started to disappear under strange circumstances. In addition, I've received a message recently, that the Book of Forbiden Magic was stolen from secret Hammer library. There's no doubt that it was Virate who did it and I dare not think about all the evil he could commit with it.

Therefore I ask you to do what's inevitable: find Virate and kill him. Also find the stolen Book of Forbiden Magic. It must be hidden again and protected against villains like Virate. As a reward, you can take all valuables that you find in his mansion."

    By: Pseudonymouse (Chris Howcroft)

Plot Description: The only thing greater than the wealth of Lord Calibrus is his reclusiveness. An influential benefactor of the Hammerites, he is also known for his amateur zoology. His home is a converted castle on the outskirts of the city, which he leaves only to attend the Hammerite temple or to acquire new books for his library. A rare exception was his attendance tonight at the birthday party of the Baron's nephew, held in the upstairs room of a hostelry known as much for its high prices as for its discretion. At this party, a disagreement with the equally paranoid Lady Mellisa about whose home was most impregnable resulted in Calibrus's boasting that "even Garrett himself couldn't evade my guards for longer than a taffer's heartbeat", which to your ears sounds like an invitation. And when a friend of yours with a debt collection agency tells you that one of his "customers" is Calibrus's head servant, and that he has chosen to settle his debts by stabbing himself in the back five times and jumping into the river, you realise that you have the perfect calling card...

    By: Alan Miles (Rugball)

Plot Description: Footsteps approach, you hear a futile plea for help and a brutal murder occurs just a heartbeat away. Thus begins your adventure in the Thieves Quarter, a decidedly bad neighborhood.

The slain man has information about the Mage's Medallion that was stolen from Ramirez. The thief responsible has been taken into custody by the Sheriff whose rise to power can be traced to his relationship to Ramirez. You must locate the medallion and take it the owner of the Laughing Skull Tavern, Bartok, twin brother of Farkus, your supplier. You will be rewarded for your trouble but another favor will be asked -- recover the Builder's Chisel. You, of course, cannot allow Ramirez to use his influence to run this part of town. Teach him a lesson by helping yourself to the contents of his treasury...

    Comments by David Riegel:

  • Pros: Strong design with intelligent texture choices and extremely reasonable poly counts, great atmosphere, a few unique surprises, and an interesting premise.
  • Cons: A lack of hints and story development in places, a few unfair gotcha traps, gameplay which forces violence due to its AI placement and constant teleportation of new enemies, a bug which may cause the Thief to crash while loading saved games.
  • Bottom Line: A solid first effort from Rugball, this mission delivers in terms of atmosphere and intrigue. As it stands, The Thieves Quarter is a good mission that, with some tweaks to gameplay and tech, could be a very strong one.
