By: Yametha

Plot Description: While digging through a sack of things I got while visiting the lost city, I discovered a scroll that had I never read before. It was from a man named Forestov who was going south to investigate the "Hall of Might' of a small new religion, the Hammerites. Intrigued by the posibility visiting an early Hammer Temple, I went south. When I got to the location though, there was nothing left but a large obelisk/hammer. As I stepped closer there was a bright flash...

Comments by Reviewer:
  • Pros: Cool effects, a creepy beginning, and solid architecture
  • Cons: An extremely aggravating apebeast area, unsneakable and deadly
  • Bottom Line: Actually, the best in this level is to be seen early on, so you might want to play it up to the apebeast cave. After that, well, I hope you're willing to reload a lot.

Plot Description: With the Mechanists finished after Karras's failed plot, their collection of arts and treasures at the Tower Gallery in North Quarter has been sold off to wealthy nobles across the city. Only one piece remains: the portrait titled 'Father's Pride'. Thankfully it's one of the most valuable paintings in the City and now it should be one of the easiest to steal because the Mechanists have moved out of the Tower Gallery and its surrounding fort leaving only a small group of poorly paid guards.

An old 'friend' of yours, Annie, is seeing one of the guards, Kenny, and has aquired a map for you. Kenny is on front gate duty tonight and, knowing he likes his drink, she has delivered some 'special' wine to him which should have him snoozing like a baby by the time you arrive. On her last visit to Kenny she smuggled in and hid your bulkier equipment so that you don't get any unwanted attention on your way to the Gallery. And all she asks in return is that you don't kill Kenny. Well, that plus twenty percent of your haul! ... (more)

Appeal: This mission was designed specificaly for my six year old son who loves watching me play Thief and wanted a not-too-scary and not-too-difficult mission to play. My ten year old son also enjoyed it! Here it is with more challenging options (for you grown-ups!) under 'Normal' and 'Hard' levels. You can customise this level yourself for your kids. The reasons why and the how-to are at the bottom of this text file. Enjoy!

    Hammer Score: 5.5 of 10
    Comments by Reviewer:
  • Pros: A mission designed for children (a rarity, to say the least). Solid gameplay and architecture, along with lots of small, endearing touches.
  • Cons: Not at all challenging, some of the humor is puerile (but that's the point, isn't it?).
  • Bottom Line: If you have kids, you might try this mission on them. However, as a full-fledged fan mission, it's only so-so, and no challenge for experienced players.

    Thief 2 Fan Mission
    Just for Show

     Filesize: 2.6 MB
     Released: 2/19/2002
     readme.txt

    By: Tumbleweed (William Hollingsworth)

Plot Description: "I wonder if he reads them, if if they're just for show..". There's some strange fascination that nobles have with books that I can never quite understand. Maybe it's because they think we commoners can't read them and it makes them superior, in my experience it's just that "nobles" never pass an opportunity to just make it clear who's got the cash and what better way to do it than to spend it something so impractical.

Anyway, it turns out my old friend Lord Bafford is seeking to expand his collection, going for quality over quantity. He's getting all kinds of rare tomes from across the lands and is having one especially delivered from Lesser Hrabota. The merchant doing the transaction is staying at the Dancing Clayman inn at Lower Eastport tonight with the intention of delivering it tomorrow. However, a well paying client of mine has also expressed an interest, and I wouldn't want to dissapoint.

I wonder if Lord Bafford has ever seen the inside of a Keeper library..

    Review by OliG
    Pros:
  • Excellent medieval-style architecture.
  • A simple task, but challenging gameplay. Plenty of scope for individuality and skill.
  • Greatly varied atmospheres - the player feels tense throughout. Texturing, sound and design combine perfectly to create the desired atmosphere in each area.

    Cons:

  • A relatively short mission
  • Lack of a strong plot.

    Bottom Line:

This mission is excellent in all respects, but it’s relative shortness and the lack of a strong plot just stops this one hitting the top. Tumbleweed - you’ve surpassed yourself.

Plot Description: You were contacted by a woman named Angela who said she had a business proposition for you. She asked you to come with her, and, knowing better, you did. She led you to a shady part of town and into a back alley where a dark figure was waiting. "Garrett?" the shady fellow asked. "Yes, it's me. What do you want?" you replied. "I see you've met my girlfriend, Angela. I am Isaac, master thief. And I have a proposition for you. I intend to break into Lord Kauer's estate and steal his prized fork and spoon." "You dragged me all the way out here because you want me to steal some guy's silverware?!?" you asked furiously. "You don't understand, Garrett," Angela interrupted. "Lord Kauer's fork and spoon are prized rarities: simply put, they're gigantic. Who eats with large silverware? They have to be worth millions!!" "Hmm, maybe you're right," you replied thoughtfully. "Just where is this Lord Kauer's mansion? And what's the plan?" "It's in the north part of town," he quipped. "Now here's what we'll do: Lord Kauer's going to have a party tonight. Angela will go in dressed as a party guest. She'll be our inside contact. I'll sneak in from the roof, and you sneak in from the basement. We'll all meet in Lord Kauer's kitchen at midnight. By: Mark - (AsyluM)

Plot Description: Living in the city has become somewhat difficult since the death of Karras. The Mechanists know who killed him and have been trying everything in their power to kill me. But I was in the city before the Mechanists were formed and I'll make sure I'm here after them as well. The Mechanists have a newly built seminary in the New Market district. It stands on the grounds where an old Hammerite temple used to stand, which mysteriously "fell" into the ground about a year ago. Rumour has it that when the Hammerites went to investigate what had happened the Mechanists had already sealed off the area. ... (more).

Additional Comments: This is my first completed FM, the level is a large Mechanist based mission. The story takes place a while after Thief 2.

     Filesize: 12.2 MB
     Released: 1/13/2002
     readme.rtf (1.2 Meg)

    By: Dark Angel

Plot Description: About a month has passed since the Trickster's demise. The Hammerites, seemingly very pleased with your recent work, decide they have another task for you. A Hammerite priest has told you about a holy scepter which has been left in an abandoned cathedral some decades ago. He wishes for you to retrieve it for him. But finding the scepter is only half the job, once found it must be blessed in a special holy pool, which is said to be located inside somewhere.

A simple job for a master thief such as yourself, not to meantion a lucrative opertunity. Be warned though, the priest didn't bother to meantion that the place was haunted.

Additional Comments: This version has been released, uncomplete, for beta testing purposes. The main things that haven't been implimented as of yet are the scripting, EAX, a few books, modeling, and the briefing videos and cutscenes. Other than that, its basicly finished (or whatever the testers find wrong with it).

    By: Schwaa (Jeffery Knez)

Plot Description: Your friend Roland, the one you served time with, that got you a map to escape jail in the past has given you an ancient map and scroll to help you find Crom's Blade. The map is very crude and in terrible shape so use it only as a reference, the scroll was being translated by the Mechanists priest Father Lucas. Lucas didn't finish translating it before Roland stole it but it should come in handy. You hopped a Mechanist train for a free ride to the excavation site and jumped out before it came to a complete stop. You found an ice cave that looks like it goes in the right direction, now you must get into the castle.

    Hammer Score: 7.5 of 10
    Comments by Reviewer:
  • Pros: Immersive ice/castle setting, fun loot-seeking and exploration, many unique elements.
  • Cons: A potentially frustrating main puzzle, a story with some unexplained aspects, and a mythos that you may find out-of-place in Thief.
  • Bottom Line: A great mission. This could be one of your favorites, especially if you enjoy the look and feel of a wintry setting.

I'm at the Saturnine Mansion this evening and let me tell you, the circumstances of my inevitable leaving are indeed bittersweet.I'm afraid I've just run through the place and made quite a mess (boots tracking snowmelt and such)—and its probably best if I'm not here when the lord of the house gets home. Hence I'm going to be quick about this here introduction. The Seventh Crystal has finally arrived. And yes, I'm a happy beta tester.I won't be giving much away if I say its a cold winter's night in the city.      Filesize: 11.3 MB
     Released: 11/7/2001
     readme.txt

     No briefing version (5.6 MB)

    By: Paul Buckley

Plot Description: Letter from Layne to Garrett, To my friend Garrett, There is a general feeling of unrest in Karrassina, the unified factions are at breaking point as each tries to obtain their share of control in the city, a civil war is not out of the question. Amidst all the political unrest there are rumours tearing through the underground regarding a new unknown force, a new threat that has been brewing in recent times. It surely not the Mechanists as they are but all gone, those that remain are now part of the unified coalition of Karrassina along with the Hammerites and the City Watchmen. No coalition members claim to know or admit to knowledge of who or what is behind these rumours or if they are true. (more)

Additional Comments: The sleepy city of Karrassina lies beneath the level of the sea and is situated upon land reclaimed from the central oceans by the mechanists before their timely demise. Since the end of mechanist rule, Karrassina has undergone many governmental changes and Karrassina is now governed by 'The Unified Coalition Of Karrassina'. The city has only recently regained its political stability and a degree of law and order is now in place. Karrassina is populated mainly by the very wealthy and the very poor, there is nothing much between. The two are segregated by the city guard who enforce peace in Karrassina as the rich look to steal from the poor to give to themselves.

    Hammer Score: 7.0 of 10
    Comments by Reviewer:
  • Pros: Very creepy, interesting and unusual below-sea-level setting, very fun (though difficult) exploration.
  • Cons: The initial friendliness of most guards may make the level too easy, finding your way about Karrassina can be very confusing.
  • Bottom Line: A very good mission, with many surprises. Worth giving a look, at the very least.
