By: Kozmala Plot Description: Dear Garret, We have been keeping an eye on the Hammers these last few months. Keeper Lukas infiltrated their order and has been passing information to us regarding their activities. It seems during extending their underground tombs they discovered an ancient temple. The markings of this temple are familiar to us. Their people stole a Talisman from us a long time ago. We thought it lost until now.
Keeper Lukas tried to retrieve it along with a thief named Felix. It should have
been a simple job but for the greediness of Felix. The Hammers caught him as he
tried to raid a tomb. Keeper Lukas managed to escape but we have not heard from
Felix, nor do we want to...(more)

By: Steven Hindley Plot Description: Later on the same night as the setting for Garrett's Revenge earlier in the night you robbed the vault of the Hammerite bank. After which you returned to your room at the inn, you can hear the Hammerites searching for who is responsible for the robbery, it only takes one Hammer to check the registry in the local inn to see if there is anyone new in this part of town. In the bar below your room you were met by another keeper, who had some items you might find useful, for a price. You go to your room together to sort out a deal, you hear from him that the gate to the docks is open, the Hammer's opened it to escort some drunk guards somewhere. The game starts where you are dealing with the keeper. Note you start with no weapons, and no starting kit, but your lockpicks, you wore out your blackjack earlier, it fell to bits just after you got to your room at the inn, the keeper says you've got to use stealth to get through the dockyards, and so your sword would just get in the way, so he will take it and hide it in the Custom House, north of the river, for a price, which is why you don't have much cash left to buy any stuff. Also the keeper doesn't have any blackjack's left having sold one to a guard at the guard house, south of the river. Items you need to buy from shop : 2 rope arrows 2 earth arrows (moss) 1 water arrow

Comments by Reviewer: Andrew Dagilis: Pros: The map has a lot of places to visit (though few of them look good). No lack of guards to blackjack, once you get one. Cons: The architecture, the textures, the ornamentation, some object location -- the map is almost entirely lacking in esthetics. Some must-find objects can be quite frustrating to locate. The "New Objectives" chimes are heard too often and unnecessarily. Bottom line: This level has a good, though standard, basic premise, but it's not handled or developed with any originality. The decor is almost uniformly hard on the eyes, which makes it even more unfortunate that you'll spend so much time in it hunting for particular objects.

By: Adrian May (Nirvana) Plot Description: This is the mission after Masks. Garrett is sent out to capture a mechanist servant for Viktoria to analyse and to hopefully learn more of Karrass's plans. The mission involves a quick trip into a small mansion then onto Viktoria's Agent's house on easy, but on expert level you also have to rob an art Gallery, break into the local Armoury and a nobles mansion to find ut how his Burricks have been performing so well. Additional Comments: This is sort of a Mission 14b. I thought the plot of Thief 2 jumped too much at the end, with Garrett being in the dark for the whole game and then suddenly knowing everything at the start of the last mission. So I'm hoping to create a steadier plot "curve".

By: von.Eins Plot Description: This is a a Bafford style mansion mission. Additional Comments: A Bafford style mission. Has books, extra objectives for harder difficulty levels and so on.

Hammer Score: 8.0 of 10 |
Comments by Reviewer: Comments by Ken Ramsley: • Pros: Relatively bug free, realistic setting, lots of places to go. • Cons: Too long, lackluster story, shopping-list feeling. Too many over-pumped guards often protecting nothing worth fighting for. • Bottom Line: Lots of real estate, some interesting custom items and effects, but nothing much to establish or carry a story.

Comments by Second Opinion Reviewer: Comments by Andrew Dagilis: • Pros: Solidly well thought-out interiors and exteriors, custom textures and sounds, no contrived "gotcha!" traps. • Cons: Some technical/programming slip-ups, some featureless rooms (admittedly, in buildings you don't have to visit), random stitched-together plotline with several slapped-on, unmotivated objectives. • Bottom Line: The designer obviously took great pains in creating his Austro-Swisslike town and all aspects thereof. Sadly, his architectural achievement is undermined by slipshod plotting and merely average scripting. Such a well designed setting deserves plot underpinnings of equal quality; unfortunately, the plotting feels a bit hodgepodgey, as if it's being made up as you go along.

By: Banshee Plot Description: A sequel to 'Lord Edmund Entertains!', this mission takes Garrett gatecrashing into Duke Creygan's funeral. Additional Comments: It is recommended you play LEE! first, or you won't understand too much of the plot.

Hammer Score: 9.5 of 10 |
Comments by Reviewer: Comments by Dkessler: • Pros: great gameplay, great lightning (!), extremely well planned, excellent AI. • Cons: As kfgecko mentioned in his review of Lord Edmund: There are no mentionable flaws in both of Banshee's missions. • Bottom Line: Banshee has produced another winner. The Vigil is a very clean, well written, well designed level Mission If you have not played "Lord Edmund" then you should play it first before participating in "The Vigil" so that you may experience the full potential of both missions.
