Friction
Explanation:
Implement a better friction system where different surfaces have different amounts of friction. Ice, for example, would be slippery.
Points to bear in mind:
Remember sliding down the ice in the maw? Dark Engine had this, presumably the Unreal engine does too. It would be good to have associated sound effects for stopping however - so as you stop on gravel you slide to a crunching halt rather than just slowing your steps.
All the more realism. Killer. :)
